The columns

nameWhat the item is called. Required.
dateWhen you bought it, as M/D/YY.
locationWhere it lives: Storefront, Warehouse, Van.
category / subcategoryYour own grouping, e.g. Coffee / Whole bean.
bought, received, sold, shipped, delivered, lostUnit counts at each stage of the lifecycle. In stock is worked out from these and ignored on import.
unit buy price $, unit sell price $Per-unit cost and price. Cost and revenue totals are derived.
notesFree text.
barcode, skuScannable code and your internal code. Keep barcodes as text so spreadsheets do not strip leading zeros.
image idLeave blank; filled by exports.
complete (Y or N), completion dateMarks an item fully sold and closed.
unique id, dataset, deleted, modified atLeave blank unless the file came from an Inventory Now export.

Using the template

Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets, LibreOffice and any text editor. It is a plain CSV with a header row and three sample rows you can delete.
